The U.N. says Belize will leave the bloc in June if it doesn’t agree to new membership agreements by then.
The Belize government has asked the bloc to suspend talks in the hopes that it can win its way out of a bitter dispute with Washington.
But Belize’s top diplomat says the talks are unlikely to be resumed.
In a statement Friday, Belizean Ambassador David Gullo said the Belize Government will submit a request to the United Nations on June 2 to resume talks.
Belize is currently at war with the United States.
and Belize are also fighting a bitter turf war over who controls Belize, which is controlled by the United Nation.
Belmopan has been a U. N. member since 1995.
