The number of languages spoken in the United States has more than doubled since 1980, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics.
And there are some major differences in the language varieties that are spoken in different parts of the country.

The biggest population increase in the state was in the states of California, Texas, Florida, Ohio and North Carolina.
The top 15 states with the largest number of foreign-born residents were Alaska, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Florida and New Mexico.
